Policy Lab

What do we do?

We aim to advance and develop the policy environment in the Maldives, carry out original research, create useful policy tools and materials, complete ambitious projects for the social good, drive policy conversations in the Maldives by broadening discussions and widening the Overton window with creative and carefully thought-out policy arguments, and train the next generation of policy-makers with a comprehensive skillset and deep practical knowledge before they enter roles across government and the civil sector.

Research projects and policy briefs

We work with intern trainees to carry out complex research projects targeting gaps in a specific policy issue, providing close guidance as trainees gain hands-on experience through the full process of primary and secondary research, policy framing and scaffolding, development of policy tools and materials, and write-ups of research findings in our publication.

Courses, seminars, and education

Through education sessions alongside partnering institutions, we seek to support skill development of future policy professionals in a crash-course format with intensive coverage of knowledge about policy development and implementation. In addition to in-person courses, we will be releasing a series of online courses on specific topics.

Magazine and publications

We will be releasing a regular magazine, publishing handbooks on policy issues and academic fields, research findings, guest articles by experienced policy professionals, and blog posts. Our magazine will feature original research as well as creative—and possibly controversial—policy arguments, seeking to broaden our ideas of what is possible. The first edition will be released in June 2024.
